In class we have been talking about shapes. This link below is a video about shapes and it can be a very helpful tool in a young elementary classroom. The video explores different shapes and the different ways they appear in everyday life to help the children to make a connection with the shapes. I think it is helpful because it will help solidify the idea of shapes, allow the children to start seeing visual properties with out realizing it and shows them that shapes come in different variations. For example a circle, can be the wheels on a car, a sun, a ball or a pizza. In a classroom you can just show parts of the video depending on what shape/shapes that your are studying at the time!

I think this video would be a great tool as an introduction of a shapes lesson. I like how it uses the main shape (circle, triangle, etc.) and presents it to the children in ways that they recognize. A great extension from this video would be to have the students make their own lists of all the things that the discussed shape is a part of or what it can represent on its own.

I'm not a huge fan of the video, though I do like using the shape names to describe what the kids are seeing around them.
